- What it needs: a Super Cruise-equipped GMC, an active plan, visible lane markings and an attentive driver.
- What it costs: three years are included with a new Super Cruise-equipped GMC. After that, GM lists plans starting at $39.99/month with a discount for annual billing.
- Towing: supported. Hands-free trailering has been part of Super Cruise on GMC trucks since the 2022 model year.

I-95 / Maine Turnpike — covered
The Turnpike is compatible from the New Hampshire line through Portland and north. For anyone commuting from Biddeford or Kennebunk, or running to Boston and back, this is where Super Cruise earns its keep.
I-295 — covered
Portland to Augusta, including the stretch most Southern Maine families use heading to camp.
I-195 — covered
The short spur into Saco.
Route 1, state routes and in-town roads — don’t count on it
GM has expanded the network well past interstates, and more minor highways get added over time. Still, roads with frequent intersections and driveways generally aren’t supported. The live map in the myGMC app is the reliable check before a trip.
Hands-Free With the Trailer Behind You
Super Cruise on GMC trucks supports hands-free trailering — a capability no competing system offers. Pulling a boat to Sebago, a camper up I-95, or a sled trailer north in February, the truck holds its lane and its following distance while you stay watching the road.
What Changes
Automatic Lane Change and turn-signal lane changes switch off while a trailer is connected. You make lane changes yourself.
What Stays On
Trailer Sway Control, the integrated trailer brake controller and the ProGrade Trailering System cameras all keep working.
Why It Matters Here
The long, straight pulls down the Turnpike are exactly the miles that wear a driver out. This is the feature buyers tell us they notice most.
What Super Cruise Doesn’t Do
- It isn’t self-driving. You stay responsible for the vehicle, and the driver-attention camera will hand control back if you look away.
- It isn’t an all-roads feature. Off the compatible network, it won’t engage — including most of the back roads around Arundel and Kennebunkport.
- It needs lane markings it can read. Heavy snow, construction zones and worn paint can end a session early. That’s a real consideration in a Maine winter.
- It isn’t something you can add later. The hardware is built in at the factory, so it has to be on the vehicle you buy.
We’d rather you hear that here than find out on the drive home. If you want to feel it for yourself, the honest test is fifteen minutes on the Turnpike.

Which GMC vehicles have Super Cruise?
Super Cruise is standard on the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate and available on the Sierra 1500 Denali. It is also offered on the Sierra EV (standard on AT4 and Denali, available on Elevation), HUMMER EV Pickup and SUV, the Acadia Denali Ultimate, and upper trims of Yukon and Sierra HD. It is not offered on Terrain or Canyon. Availability depends on trim and build, so confirm by VIN before you buy.
Does Super Cruise work in Maine?
Yes. The entire Maine Turnpike (I-95) corridor is compatible, along with I-295 from Portland to Augusta and I-195 into Saco, plus most major interstates across New Hampshire, Massachusetts and the rest of the Northeast. Coverage on Route 1, state routes and local roads is limited. Check the Super Cruise map in the myGMC app for specific stretches.
Can I use Super Cruise while towing?
Yes. Hands-free trailering has been available on Super Cruise-equipped GMC trucks since the 2022 model year, so you can tow a boat or camper hands-free on compatible roads. Automatic Lane Change and turn-signal-activated lane changes are turned off while a trailer is attached. Trailer Sway Control, the trailer brake controller and the ProGrade Trailering System cameras stay active.
How much does Super Cruise cost after the included plan?
A new Super Cruise-equipped GMC includes three years of the connectivity plan that runs the feature. After that, GM lists plans that include Super Cruise starting at $39.99 per month, with a discount for annual billing. Pricing is set by GM and can change, so confirm current rates with our team or with OnStar at renewal.
Is Super Cruise the same as adaptive cruise control?
No. Adaptive cruise control maintains your speed and following distance, but you steer with your hands on the wheel. Super Cruise steers, brakes and accelerates on compatible roads with your hands off the wheel, using pre-mapped road data, precision GPS, cameras and radar, plus a driver-attention camera that requires your eyes stay on the road.
Can Super Cruise be added to a GMC that didn’t come with it?
No. Super Cruise requires factory-installed hardware, including the camera and sensor package and the driver-attention system. It cannot be added to a vehicle built without it, so it has to be on the truck or SUV you buy.
How do I know Super Cruise is active?
A light bar on the top of the steering wheel turns green when hands-free driving is available and engaged. It turns blue during a lane change, and flashes red when the system needs you to take the wheel back.
