Canyon Trim Levels Explained: Elevation, AT4, AT4X & Denali
Four trims, one engine, very different trucks. Here’s how the 2026 Canyon breaks down — and which one fits how you actually drive in Southern Maine.

At Weirs GMC in Arundel — right between Biddeford, Kennebunk, and Portland — the question we hear most about the Canyon isn’t “which engine?” It’s “which trim?” That’s because every 2026 GMC Canyon runs the same 2.7L TurboMax turbo-four: 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. You don’t pick a powertrain — you pick a personality.
The four trims — Elevation, AT4, AT4X, and Denali — climb from value daily driver to lifted-and-locked trail rig to leather-lined luxury. Below we break down what each one actually gives you, what it costs, and who we steer toward it. If you’re still deciding between the Canyon and a full-size truck, start with our 2026 GMC Canyon overview or the broader Find My GMC Truck guide.

Canyon — The Smart Entry Point

Elevation
The Elevation is the Canyon most Maine commuters actually need. It comes well-equipped out of the box, and you can add 4WD for around $3,300 — which most of our buyers do once they think about January on Route 1.
- Rear-wheel drive standard; 4WD available (+~$3,300)
- 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- 11-inch digital driver display
- Rear camera and parking sensors
- Forward collision alert and lane departure warning
- 8.6 inches of ground clearance
Who we point to the Elevation: buyers commuting I-95 or running around Portland and Kennebunk who want a right-sized truck without a big payment. Add 4WD and it handles our winters just fine.
Canyon — The Maine Sweet Spot

AT4
The AT4 is the trim we sell the most of, and for good reason: it’s the everyday off-road Canyon. A factory 2-inch lift, standard 4WD, a locking rear diff, and real drive modes make camp roads, boat ramps, and snowy back roads a non-event.
- 4WD standard
- Factory 2-inch lift (~10.6 in clearance)
- Electronic locking rear differential
- Terrain, Off-Road, Tow/Haul, and Normal drive modes
- Underbody skid plates & all-terrain tires
- Off-road-tuned suspension
Who we point to the AT4: the trailhead-and-camp crowd — folks who tow a small boat or a couple of sleds, drive dirt to the lake, and still want a comfortable daily. For most Southern Maine buyers, this is the one. It also keeps the full 7,700-lb tow rating.
Canyon — Lifted, Locked, Loaded

AT4X
The AT4X is the most capable Canyon GMC builds. It takes the AT4 and goes further — a taller lift, lockers at both ends, and trick dampers that make rough trails feel composed. If you actually use the backcountry, this is the one.
- Everything on the AT4, plus:
- Factory 3-inch lift (~11.6 in clearance)
- Electronic locking front and rear differentials
- Multimatic DSSV dampers
- Exclusive Baja high-speed off-road drive mode
- Up to 10-camera system with underbody views
- Head-up display & Bose premium audio
Who we point to the AT4X: serious off-roaders who put the truck to work on technical terrain. One trade-off to know: the AT4X is rated to tow up to 6,000 lbs rather than 7,700, so if heavy towing is your priority, the AT4 is the smarter pick.
Canyon — The Premium Midsize

Denali
The Denali is the Canyon for people who want a premium truck without going full-size. It trades the off-road lift for comfort and presence — perforated leather, a head-up display, Bose audio, and exclusive 20-inch wheels — while keeping standard 4WD for our weather.
- 4WD standard
- Perforated leather seating surfaces
- Head-up display (HUD)
- Bose premium audio system
- Exclusive 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires
- Premium interior trim & wireless charging pad
Who we point to the Denali: buyers who spend most of their miles on pavement — the coast, downtown Portland, the highway — and want the nicest cabin in the lineup. It still has 4WD and the full 7,700-lb tow rating; it just prioritizes comfort over clearance.
Which Canyon Trim for You?
- Lowest price & daily commuting → Elevation (add 4WD for winter)
- Camp roads, towing, snow — the all-rounder → AT4
- Serious trails, lifted and locked → AT4X
- Premium cabin, mostly pavement → Denali
