The Short Answer

What’s New on the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 at a Glance

GMC just pulled the cover off the next-generation 2027 Sierra 1500, and it’s a full redesign — not a refresh. The headline is power: two all-new sixth-generation Small Block V8s in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements, joining an enhanced TurboMax 2.7L turbo and the class-exclusive Duramax diesel, all paired to a 10-speed automatic.

On top of the new engines, you get a completely redesigned interior with more than 60 inches of available digital displays, a bolder exterior, a flagship Denali Ultimate, and the most off-road-capable AT4X Sierra GMC has ever built. First trucks are expected to land at GMC dealers before the end of the 2026 calendar year. At Weirs GMC in Arundel, we’ll be among the first stores in Southern Maine to see them — and if you want to understand how the new V8s stack up against today’s lineup, our Sierra 1500 engine guide is the place to start.

Below we break down the engines, the new tech, the Denali Ultimate, and the AT4X — and what each one means for how Mainers actually use these trucks. Not sure a Sierra 1500 is the right GMC truck for you? Start with Find My GMC Truck.

Inside & Out

A Bolder Exterior and a Completely Redesigned Cabin

The 2027 Sierra 1500 gets a sharper, more vertical front end with evolved signature lighting, GMC signature WOM lights, available welcome and farewell animations, and available quad exhaust outlets. It reads more confident and more premium without losing the truck’s working-tool credibility.

Inside is where it really moves upmarket. Every trim gets a redesigned interior with new colorways and premium materials, including available real wood trim accents and an available panoramic sunroof. GMC is also claiming best-in-class standard crew cab front head and leg room — which matters a lot when you’re three coffees into a drive from Arundel up to Portland or down to Boston. The available all-new MultiPro center console opens into an extended work surface, so the truck works as well as a rolling office as it does on a job site.

Denali Ultimate

The Flagship: Tech, Comfort & V8 Power

The Denali Ultimate sits at the very top of the lineup, and it’s loaded. It comes standard with the 6.6L V8 and more than 60 inches of combined digital displays — the most in its class.

  • 16.3-inch infotainment screen (largest in class) with articulation and hidden storage
  • 11.5-inch front passenger screen with articulating cover
  • 12.2-inch Driver Information Center + 15-inch color Head-Up Display
  • 8.5-inch Rear Camera Mirror for a clear view with the bed loaded
  • 16-speaker Bose Premium audio with head-restraint speakers
  • Standard 3-year Super Cruise hands-free driving — including while towing

That Super Cruise detail is a big one for Maine drivers: hands-free assistance on 600,000+ miles of compatible roads, and it works while you’re towing — ideal for the long I-95 pulls with a camper or a boat behind you. It’s a capability no competitor in the class offers.

AT4X: The Most Capable Sierra AT4X Ever

For the buyers who actually use camp roads, trailheads, and unplowed back acreage, the 2027 AT4X gets serious new hardware — not just badges.

  • 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires  →  a Sierra first, built for traction and durability in rough conditions
  • Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers  →  composure over washboard, ruts, and high-speed impacts
  • Front & rear e-locking differentials  →  a class-exclusive combination for maximum traction
  • 2-inch factory suspension lift  →  exclusive hood and front fascia for a more purposeful stance
  • Timber Mahogany interior + standard panoramic sunroof  →  rugged but refined enough for the drive home

Want even more? GMC will continue to offer the AEV Edition package on the 2027 Sierra 1500. The rest of the lineup — Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali — carries over too, each tuned for a different kind of buyer.
